View Full Article High court: S.C. cities can ban smoking April 1, 2008 By Aliana Ramos, The Sun News The state's cities and towns have the power to ban smoking in all enclosed public places, including restaurants and bars, under an S.C. Supreme Court ruling released Monday. The smoking ban survived a challenge from dozens of Greenville business owners who claimed their city's ban was unconstitutional and local law should not pre-empt state laws. Those arguments were supported by a trial judge who ruled in favor of the business owners in March 2007.
